Fear and Worship - Two sides of the same coin?
[[MORE]]Awhile back I joined a community online for heathens of various types. While most of the members seem to be Asatru, there are no rules against Lokeans or people who follow different heathen religions. But when someone posted a link to some lore about Loki recently, strictly for study purposes without saying anything about worship, another member quickly commented to let her know that posts...

Everything is Full of Gods
lokisgift:
It appears I’ve offended the Tetrad++, if only by offending their most ardent and devoted priest. This clarification is for Them: Panpsyche, Panhyle, Paneros, Pancrates, Paneris, Panprosdexia. May they be as eternal as they are novel and necessary.

Fear is Not the Goal →
adaoineile:
Inspired by a conversation I had with urban-pooka earlier. I was originally going to post on some art projects I have brewing, but this post let me get my frustration out and feel productive.
I don’t get on my knees because of fear. I get down on them because of trust.
I love this. My experiences with gods have definitely not been this intense (I often have trouble connecting...

I’m reading something by bell hooks and I love it. I came here to write about her, but got distracted. So this post is pretty much all about me, which now that I’ve written it feels dumb. But that’s where my mind is right now, so here’s some self-indulgent rambling about how I might actually have a career as a writer.

Awesome <3 I’m currently trying to wrangle up the volumes of X 1999 cause that was sooo powerful and influential on me.
That’s one I actually haven’t seen. I’ve read parts of it and it seemed interesting, but it never seemed to be in the stores I visited when I was looking for it.

Is that magic knight rayearth? (If not don’t hate me I surely am lacking in my CLAMP education)
It is! It was the show that got me started with anime in high school, and it’s still my favorite. I have the manga in English for reading, but this set in Japanese just has such beautiful covers and reminds...

Oops, I’m back. So much for productivity.
But seriously, all this arguing over pop culture paganism is pissing me off. I understand why some people don’t like it, they have their own more traditional approach, and I think that’s great for them. But the arguments against anyone else practicing it (from people I generally really like and respect!) seem to boil down to “If...

I am underwhelmed bu the trailer ;.;
The trailer does not impress me either. Really I’m pretty sure this series only exists to let them compete with Monster High rather than because they actually thought it was an interesting story to tell, and usually that sort of motivation does not lead to great writing...

Pop Culture Pagans Need Respect Too
dythetiern:
The post that brought me here. Source
This is exactly the problem with the fandom approach to the gods I am seeing more and more lately. People treating their (supposed) interactions with deities no differently than a brainstorming session for a piece of fanfic (as I said once before, failing to “discern between what a god might like, or do, or say, and what They...

Jay Gatsby was black: an explanation

stevebuscreaming:
So let me explain this theory for those of you who haven’t heard it before already.
The Great Gatsby is a story of a man that makes his fortune bootlegging and throws countless magnificent parties all in hopes of attracting the attention of his old flame Daisy.
But it’s really a story about insurmountable class barriers. Daisy will never be with Gatsby, no...

“Satan was ordered to bow down to Adam. He replied: O Lord! If You forgive me for not prostrating to him, I would worship You the kind of worship that no one else could match.” — Imam Ja’far as-Sadiq
The Sufi portrayal of Satan is a remarkably tragic one, which makes the agony of the fallen angel’s separation from the host of Heaven appear even greater and more...

I’m giving a talk this week on pop culture as a source of secular values and moral education, so I’m trying to put it together now. Really excited but also really nervous. It will be the first time I’ve done public speaking on my own in almost a year.
So far on the list of sub-topics:
How fast culture changes these days and how we adapt to our environment (using memes and the...

Hello friends! I don’t know how to introduce this so I’ll just get straight to the point. A friend of mine’s mother was diagnosed with leukemia and at this point, the only option is surgery. Since my first ritual for Holda a couple of weeks ago, I’ve started thinking of her more and more. I’ve slowly started to notice that all of my shrines for other gods sort of remind me of her, which makes me think that if I’m not careful she’ll take over my whole religious practice.
I have not yet decided if this is a good thing or a bad thing.
